Peptides are sensitive to temperature, light, oxygen, and repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Semaglutide in dry form is generally held at refrigerated temperatures, while reconstituted solutions require a defined short-term storage window. Vials should be kept in secondary packaging to limit photodegradation, and exposure to alkaline conditions is avoided because it accelerates chemical degradation. Adsorption to glass and some plastics can reduce the measured concentration of dilute solutions, so low-binding polypropylene containers are preferred for analytical work. Each transfer step introduces a small risk of contamination, and closed handling practices reduce that risk.
Routine characterisation of the peptide relies on reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography, often paired with ultraviolet detection near 214 nanometres. Related substances such as deamidated, oxidised, and truncated sequences elute at characteristic positions and are quantified by area percentage. Electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry confirms the molecular mass and can resolve some closely related variants. Peptide mapping after enzymatic digestion provides sequence-level verification and is useful when a full identity profile is required. Method parameters such as column chemistry, gradient, and mobile-phase pH influence the separation and must be reported alongside results.
Storage at minus 20 degrees Celsius or lower in a desiccated container preserves the peptide for extended periods, while working solutions are commonly held at two to eight degrees Celsius for short intervals. Light exposure and repeated freeze-thaw cycles accelerate degradation, so dividing material into single-use aliquots is generally recommended. Adsorption to glass and plastic surfaces can lower the measured concentration of dilute solutions, particularly below one milligram per millilitre. The degradation routes most often reported for GLP-1 analogues are deamidation, methionine oxidation, and backbone hydrolysis. Relative rates under specific conditions are frequently described only for individual formulations.
Reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection near 214 or 280 nanometres is widely used to assess purity and to resolve related impurities. Liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry confirms identity through the protonated molecular ion and fragment ions formed in tandem experiments. Capillary electrophoresis and peptide mapping after enzymatic digestion supply complementary information on charge variants and modification sites. Circular dichroism and nuclear magnetic resonance can report on secondary structure in solution. Absolute quantification usually depends on an external standard, and reported purity depends on the detection wavelength and integration parameters chosen.

Native GLP-1 is degraded rapidly by dipeptidyl peptidase-4. Semaglutide resists this cleavage because alanine at position 8 is replaced by alpha-aminoisobutyric acid. A second substitution at position 34 introduces arginine, which further stabilizes the peptide. The most distinctive modification is a spacer and C18 fatty diacid attached at lysine 26, enabling strong albumin affinity. These three changes together produce a half-life measured in days rather than minutes, and the same structural logic underlies other long-acting analogs in this class.
Semaglutide is a synthetic peptide analog of glucagon-like peptide-1, a hormone released from intestinal L-cells after food intake. It contains 31 amino acids and differs from native GLP-1 through modifications that slow enzymatic breakdown. The peptide was developed to extend the short circulating half-life of endogenous GLP-1, which is measured in minutes. Researchers introduced the compound in the early 2010s. Two backbone changes and a fatty acid side chain define its structure, distinguishing it from earlier GLP-1 receptor agonists.
The compound binds the GLP-1 receptor on pancreatic beta cells and other tissues, activating a G-protein signaling cascade that raises intracellular cyclic AMP. This action increases glucose-dependent insulin secretion when blood glucose is elevated, while binding also slows gastric emptying and reduces glucagon release. In the central nervous system, receptor activation in the hypothalamus and brainstem contributes to reduced appetite. The fatty acid chain binds albumin, which protects the peptide from renal filtration and enzymatic degradation. This albumin binding is central to its extended circulation time.
==== Unanimous selection for Most Valuable Player Award (1994) ==== The most productive season in Bagwell's professional career was the strike-shortened 1994 season which set several franchise records. On Opening Day, April 4, against the Montreal Expos, Bagwell hit the game-tying home run while going 3-for-6 as the Astros won in a 12-inning walk-off. For the month of April, he batted .360 with six home runs and added another six home runs in May. In June, he hit 13 home runs, establishing an Astros' franchise record for one month, while batting .394, 11 doubles, .455 OBP, .899 SLG, and 1.354 OPS. On June 24, in a 16–4 rout of the Los Angeles Dodgers at the Astrodome, he hit three home runs, including two in the same inning, becoming the first Astro since Glenn Davis in 1990 to do so. Bagwell was the NL Player of the Week for consecutive weeks on June 19 and June 26 and the NL Player of the Month for June, his second career monthly award. Selected to his first All-Star Game as a reserve, Bagwell had tied Kirby Puckett for the major league RBI lead at 81 going into the All-Star break, and batted .348 with 27 home runs and 74 runs scored. In the All-Star Game, Bagwell entered as a pinch hitter for starting pitcher Greg Maddux, singling off David Cone, and wound up collecting two hits in four at bats. The first player in the majors to reach 100 RBI on July 27, Bagwell homered off José Rijo in a 6–5 win over Cincinnati to give him 101 RBI in his first 101 games. In July, he tied a club record for RBI in any month with 29, which José Cruz and Jimmy Wynn shared.
== History == JRT was developed by Jeremy R. Tuck (J.R.T.), Lee E. Dunlap, David E. Olson, and other colleagues at Delix Therapeutics and the University of California, Davis. It was first described in the scientific literature by 2022 and was subsequently described in greater detail in 2025.
The ruling does allow for team uniforms to display "Russia" on the uniform as well as the use of the Russian flag's colors within the uniform's design, although the name should be up to equal predominance as the "Neutral Athlete/Team" designation. Russia can appeal the decision. On 19 February 2021, it was announced that Russia would compete under the acronym "ROC", after the name of the Russian Olympic Committee. On aftermatch, the IOC announced that the Russian national flag would be substituted by the flag of the Russian Olympic Committee. It would also be allowed to use team uniforms bearing the words "Russian Olympic Committee", or the acronym "ROC" would be added. On 15 April 2021, the uniforms for the Russian Olympic Committee athletes were unveiled, featuring the colours of the Russian flag. On 22 April 2021, the replacement for Russia's anthem was approved by the IOC, after an earlier choice of the patriotic Russian war song "Katyusha" was rejected. A fragment of Pyotr Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 is used.
=== Autism spectrum disorder === Unlike ADHD, which significantly increases the risk of substance use disorder, autism spectrum disorder has the opposite effect of significantly reducing the risk of substance use. This is because introversion, inhibition and lack of sensation seeking personality traits, which are typical of autism spectrum disorder, protect against substance use and thus substance use levels are low in individuals who are on the autism spectrum. However, certain forms of substance use disorders, especially alcohol use disorder, can cause or worsen certain neuropsychological symptoms which are common to autism spectrum disorder. This includes impaired social skills due to the neurotoxic effects of alcohol on the brain, especially in the prefrontal cortex area of the brain. The social skills that are impaired by alcohol use disorder include impairments in perceiving facial emotions, prosody perception problems and theory of mind deficits; the ability to understand humour is also impaired in people who consume excessive amounts of alcohol.

== Structure == DNA and RNA have a deoxyribose and ribose sugar backbone, respectively, whereas PNA's backbone is composed of repeating N-(2-aminoethyl)-glycine units linked by peptide bonds. The various purine and pyrimidine bases are linked to the backbone by a methylene bridge (−CH2−) and a carbonyl group (C=O). PNAs are depicted like peptides, with the N-terminus at the first (left) position and the C-terminus at the last (right) position.
In Alberta, the Blood Tribe police claimed that from the fall of 2014 through January 2015, oxycodone pills or a lethal fake variation referred to as Oxy 80s containing fentanyl made in illegal labs by members of organized crime were responsible for ten deaths on the Blood Reserve, which is located southwest of Lethbridge, Alberta. Province-wide, approximately 120 Albertans died from fentanyl-related overdoses in 2014.
The theatre in Brazil has its origins in the period of Jesuit expansion, when theater was used for the dissemination of Catholic doctrine in the 16th century. In the 17th and 18th centuries, dramatists on the scene of European derivation were for court or private performances. During the 19th century, the playwrights Antônio Gonçalves Dias and Luís Carlos Martins Pena were known for their performance. There were also numerous operas and orchestras. The Brazilian conductor Antônio Carlos Gomes became internationally known with operas such as Il Guarany. At the end of the 19th century, orchestrated dramaturgias were accompanied with songs of famous artists such as the conductress Chiquinha Gonzaga. Already in the early 20th century there was the presence of theaters, entrepreneurs and actor companies. In 1940, Paschoal Carlos Magno and his student's theater, the comedians group and the Italian actors Adolfo Celi, Ruggero Jacobbi and Aldo Calvo, founders of the Teatro Brasileiro de Comédia, renewed the Brazilian theater. From the 1960s, it was attended by a theater dedicated to social and religious issues. The most prominent authors at this stage were Jorge Andrade and Ariano Suassuna.
Novel ingredients must undergo scientific assessment before being considered safe for consumption, and a safety assessment report must be completed for ingredient authorization. In addition, all pet food animal products must be considered fit for human food consumption, a measure put into place to prevent the spread of zoonotic diseases, and plants that will be manufacturing the pet food must be authorized under two of the EU legislature bodies. To learn more about labelling and regulations of pet food, see Pet food.
=== Carl Hardee Sr. campaign === In March 2017, Hardee's began to move away from the sexualized ads by releasing a commercial featuring a white bearded character played by Charles Esten as "Carl Hardee Sr." who had come back into the office (much to the delight of the employees) to find his son (Drew Tarver), a.k.a. "Carl Jr." who was focusing on sex appeal over its food. The commercial marked a turning point in CKE's advertising, as the company wanted to move away from its provocative ads and focus more on food and as a competitor to Five Guys, Steak 'n Shake, and In-N-Out Burger. "Carl Hardee Sr." was also expected to become the new company spokesperson.

== Early life and education == Milan Mrksich (Serbian Cyrillic: Милан Мркшић) was born on August 15, 1968, to Serbian immigrants and raised in Justice, Illinois. He graduated from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1989 with a B.S. in chemistry working in the laboratory of Steven Zimmerman on molecular tweezers. He completed his PhD in organic chemistry in 1994 from Caltech under chemist Peter B. Dervan. After graduate school, he was an American Chemical Society postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University under chemist George M. Whitesides before joining the faculty at the University of Chicago in 1996. He worked there for 15 years before joining the faculty at Northwestern University in 2011.
Somatotrophs, which secrete growth hormone (a peptide hormone) Lactotrophs, which secrete prolactin (a peptide hormone) When using standard staining techniques, they cannot be distinguished from each other (though they can be distinguished from basophils and chromophobes), and are therefore identified simply as "acidophils".
=== Since 1873 === On January 1, 1873, Japan adopted the Gregorian calendar. To convert any Gregorian calendar year between 1873 and 1912 to Japanese calendar year in Meiji era, 1867 needs to be subtracted from the year in question.
=== World War I and the American dye industry 1913 – 1930 === Through 1914, the US dye market was dominated by German imports, there were only a few small companies and German subsidiaries. With World War I, however, German dye factories now had to switch to making explosives and German shipping was cut off by British blockades. Prices quickly went up and U. S. companies built plants to meet demand. American pharmaceutical giants, even at that time, like Dow, DuPont, and others began to produce dyes and were extremely successful with simple sulphur and vat dyes. Dow Chemical developed a synthetic process for indigo in 1915, and American industry and universities worked together to reverse engineer German chemical production secrets. After the war some American munitions factories converted to dye-works, intuiting that if the reverse was possible for the German chemical industry during the war, then it ought to be feasible.

Different techniques detect different classes of impurities, so a single number does not describe a sample completely. Reversed-phase chromatography resolves related peptides well but can miss inorganic salts, while mass spectrometry confirms mass without quantifying everything present. Comparing results requires knowing which method was used and how it was validated.
Cycling between frozen and liquid states can promote aggregation and surface adsorption at the container wall. Each cycle exposes the peptide to transient concentration and pH shifts near the ice interface. Aliquoting before storage limits the number of cycles a single container experiences.
Purity describes how much of the material is the intended substance, while identity describes whether that substance is the correct molecule. Mass spectrometry gives an observed mass that is compared with the theoretical value for the sequence. Peptide mapping after digestion adds sequence-level confirmation that mass alone cannot provide.
Filtering removes particulate matter that can block columns or scatter light. A 0.22 micrometre membrane is typical, and the filter material should be checked for peptide adsorption.
