Peptide degradation follows several routes. Hydrolysis cleaves the backbone at susceptible residues, oxidation targets methionine and tryptophan side chains, and aggregation produces higher-molecular-weight species that are difficult to reverse. Light exposure accelerates oxidation, which is why amber glass or opaque secondary packaging is common. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles promote aggregation and are best avoided. Stability-indicating methods detect these changes before they become visible.
Quality control for research material typically involves reversed-phase HPLC for purity and identity, mass spectrometry for molecular weight confirmation, and Karl Fischer titration for residual water content. Peptide content is often reported as the mass of actual peptide rather than total powder mass, since counterions and water contribute to the latter. A certificate of analysis should list the method used for each specification. Limits and acceptance criteria vary by supplier and by intended application.

Storage guidance for the finished injectable product distinguishes the unused state from the in-use state. Before first use, pens are kept refrigerated between 2 and 8 degrees Celsius, protected from light, and never frozen, since freezing can disrupt the peptide or the device. After first use, label instructions in several markets permit storage at room temperature up to about 30 degrees Celsius for a limited number of days. Solid research-grade material is normally held at or below minus 20 degrees Celsius, often with desiccant, and allowed to equilibrate before opening.
Quantification and purity assessment rely on separation methods coupled to optical or mass detection. Reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography resolves the intact peptide from related impurities and is the standard assay technique. Size-exclusion chromatography measures aggregates, while ion-exchange chromatography separates charge variants produced by deamidation. Mass spectrometry confirms identity and detects mass shifts of a few daltons. In biological matrices, liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry is often used because immunoassays can cross-react with endogenous GLP-1 or with circulating fragments.
Development began in the early 2010s with the goal of extending GLP-1 activity beyond the brief window achieved by native peptide infusion. The earliest approved formulation was a subcutaneous injection given once weekly. A later oral tablet pairs the peptide with an absorption enhancer, sodium N-(8-[2-hydroxybenzoyl] amino) caprylate, usually shortened to SNAC. That carrier lowers local pH and helps the peptide cross gastric tissue. Both routes deliver the same active molecule.
Semaglutide is a synthetic peptide analog of human glucagon-like peptide-1, a gut hormone released after meals. Its backbone retains the GLP-1 sequence but incorporates two substitutions that slow enzymatic breakdown by dipeptidyl peptidase-4. A short polyethylene glycol linker and a C18 fatty diacid are attached to the peptide chain, allowing the molecule to bind serum albumin and remain in circulation far longer than the native hormone. The result is a circulating half-life measured in days rather than the minutes typical of endogenous GLP-1.
==== K ==== Kashk – is used in a large family of foods found in Lebanese, Palestinian, Egyptian, Kurdish, Iranian, and Central Asian cuisine. It is made from drained sour milk or yogurt by forming it and letting it dry. It can be made in a variety of forms, including rolled into balls, sliced into strips, and formed into chunks.
Very hot objects emit UV radiation (see black-body radiation). The Sun emits ultraviolet radiation at all wavelengths, including the extreme ultraviolet where it crosses into X-rays at 10 nm. Extremely hot stars (such as O- and B-type) emit proportionally more UV radiation than the Sun. Sunlight in space at the top of Earth's atmosphere (see solar constant) is composed of about 50% infrared light, 40% visible light, and 10% ultraviolet light, for a total intensity of about 1400 W/m2 in vacuum. The atmosphere blocks about 77% of the Sun's UV, when the Sun is highest in the sky (at zenith), with absorption increasing at shorter UV wavelengths. At ground level with the sun at zenith, sunlight is 44% visible light, 3% ultraviolet, and the remainder infrared. Of the ultraviolet radiation that reaches the Earth's surface, more than 95% is the longer wavelengths of UVA, with the small remainder UVB. Almost no UVC reaches the Earth's surface. The fraction of UVA and UVB which remains in UV radiation after passing through the atmosphere is heavily dependent on cloud cover and atmospheric conditions. On "partly cloudy" days, patches of blue sky showing between clouds are also sources of (scattered) UVA and UVB, which are produced by Rayleigh scattering in the same way as the visible blue light from those parts of the sky. UVB also plays a major role in plant development, as it affects most of the plant hormones.
== Etymology == In Old Japanese, me stood for edible seaweeds in general as opposed to mo standing for algae. In kanji, such as 海藻, 軍布 and 和布 were applied to transcribe the word. Among seaweeds, wakame was likely most often eaten, therefore me especially meant wakame. It expanded later to other seaweeds like kajime, hirome (kombu), arame, etc. Wakame is derived from waka + me (若布, lit. 'young seaweed'). If this waka is a eulogistic prefix, the same as the tama of tamagushi, wakame likely stood for seaweeds widely in ancient times. In the Man'yōshū, in addition to 和可米 and 稚海藻 (both are read as wakame), nigime (和海藻, soft wakame) can be seen. Besides, tamamo (玉藻, lit. 'beautiful algae'), which often appeared in the Man'yōshū, may be wakame depending on poems.
Development of the long acting insulin NPH in the 1940s by Novo Nordisk Identification of the first of the sulfonylureas in 1942 Reintroduction of the use of biguanides for type 2 diabetes in the late 1950s. The insulin was isolated from genetically altered bacteria (the bacteria contain the human gene for synthesizing synthetic human insulin), which produce large quantities of insulin. The purified insulin is distributed to pharmacies for use by diabetes patients.
Five stable isotopes of zinc occur in nature, with 64Zn being the most abundant isotope (49.17% natural abundance). The other isotopes found in nature are 66Zn (27.73%), 67Zn (4.04%), 68Zn (18.45%), and 70Zn (0.61%). Several dozen radioisotopes have been characterized. 65Zn, which has a half-life of 243.66 days, is the least active radioisotope, followed by 72Zn with a half-life of 46.5 hours. Zinc has 10 nuclear isomers, of which 69mZn has the longest half-life, at 13.75 hours. The superscript m indicates a metastable isotope, whose nucleus is in an excited state and which will eventually return to its ground state, through the emission of excess energy in the form of one or more photons (gamma rays), with the nucleus decaying to the ground state by the end of the process. The most common decay mode of a radioisotope of zinc with a mass number lower than 66 is electron capture. The resulting decay product will be an isotope of copper.

Anti-centromere antibodies are associated with limited cutaneous systemic sclerosis, also known as CREST syndrome, primary biliary cirrhosis and proximal scleroderma. There are six known antigens, which are all associated with the centromere; CENP-A to CENP-F. CENP-A is a 17kDa histone H3-like protein. CENP-B is an 80kDa DNA binding protein involved in the folding of heterochromatin. CENP-C is a 140kDa protein involved in kinetochore assembly. CENP-D is a 50kDa protein of unknown function, but may be homologous to another protein involved in chromatin condensation, RCC1. CENP-E is a 312kDa protein from the kinesin motor protein family. CENP-F is a 367kDa protein from the nuclear matrix that associates with the kinetochore in late G2 phase during mitosis. CENP-A, B and C antibodies are most commonly found (16–42% of systemic sclerosis) and are associated with Raynaud's phenomenon, telangiectasias, lung involvement and early onset in systemic sclerosis. Anti-centromere antibodies are found in approximately 60% of patients with limited systemic scleroderma and in 15% of those with the diffuse form of scleroderma. The specificity of this test is >98%. Thus, a positive anti-centromere antibody finding is strongly suggestive of limited systemic scleroderma. Anti-centromere antibodies present early in the course of disease and are notably predictive of limited cutaneous involvement and a decreased likelihood of aggressive internal organ involvement, such as fibrosis in the lungs.
== Society and culture == Some cultures regard the liver as the seat of the soul. In Greek mythology, the gods punished Prometheus for revealing fire to humans by chaining him to a rock where a vulture (or an eagle) would peck out his liver, which would regenerate overnight (the liver is the only human internal organ that actually can regenerate itself to a significant extent). Many ancient peoples of the Near East and Mediterranean areas practiced a type of divination called haruspicy or hepatomancy, where they tried to obtain information by examining the livers of sheep and other animals. In Plato, and in later physiology, the liver was thought to be the seat of the darkest emotions (specifically wrath, jealousy and greed) which drive men to action. The Talmud (tractate Berakhot 61b) refers to the liver as the seat of anger, with the gallbladder counteracting this. The Persian, Urdu, and Hindi languages (جگر or जिगर or jigar) refer to the liver in figurative speech to indicate courage and strong feelings, or "their best"; e.g., "This Mecca has thrown to you the pieces of its liver!". The term jan e jigar, literally "the strength (power) of my liver", is a term of endearment in Urdu. In Persian slang, jigar is used as an adjective for any object which is desirable, especially women. In the Zulu language, the word for liver (isibindi) is the same as the word for courage. In English the term 'lily-livered' is used to indicate cowardice from the medieval belief that the liver was the seat of courage. Spanish hígados also means "courage".
=== Supporters === Pritzker has gained support from progressives and socialists for his stances on healthcare, education, raising the minimum wage, legalizing recreational marijuana, and expanding access to healthcare. His administration has been considered one of the most progressive in the United States.
The Liberal Party lacked a unified ideological base in 1906. It contained numerous contradictory and hostile factions, such as imperialists and supporters of the Boers; near-socialists and laissez-faire classical liberals; suffragettes and opponents of women's suffrage; antiwar elements and supporters of the military alliance with France. Nonconformists – Protestants outside the Anglican fold – were a powerful element, dedicated to opposing the established church in terms of education and taxation. However, the non-conformists were losing support amid society at large and played a lesser role in party affairs after 1900. The party, furthermore, also included Irish Catholics, and secularists from the labour movement. Many Conservatives (including Winston Churchill) had recently protested against high tariff moves by the Conservatives by switching to the anti-tariff Liberal camp, but it was unclear how many old Conservative traits they brought along, especially on military and naval issues. The middle-class business, professional and intellectual communities were generally strongholds, although some old aristocratic families played important roles as well. The working-class element was moving rapidly toward the newly emerging Labour Party. One uniting element was widespread agreement on the use of politics and Parliament as a device to upgrade and improve society and to reform politics. All Liberals were outraged when Conservatives used their majority in the House of Lords to block reform legislation.

After Constantinople fell, the Ottomans quickly absorbed the remaining independent territories, including Acciaiuoli Athens in 1458, Morea in 1460, Trebizond in 1461, and Gattilusi Lesbos in 1462. They dismantled the Empire's political and secular institutions, leaving the impoverished Church to manage what would be later called the Rum Millet, primarily as a tool for taxing its followers. As the sole sovereign Orthodox state, Russia developed the Third Rome doctrine, emphasising its cultural heritage as distinct from Western Europe, because the latter had inherited much of the empire's secular learning. The Danubian Principalities became a haven for Orthodox Christians and Phanariot Greeks who sought to recreate a Byzantine Greek Empire. In modern Greece, members of the Rum Millet increasingly identified as Greeks, eventually leading to a successful war of independence in the 19th century. The modern Greek state nearly doubled its territory through the pursuit of the Megali Idea—a vision of reclaiming the former lands of the eastern empire—achieving limited success during the Crimean War but making significant gains during the Balkan Wars. Since the 15th century, Byzantine history has been deeply politicised, woven into nationalist, colonialist, and imperialist narratives. This politicisation appears not only in Greece but also in Bulgarian, Romanian, Serbian, Hungarian, and Turkish nationalism, as well as in former French and Russian imperialist agendas.

Oscar Werner Tiegs FRS FAA (12 March 1897 – 5 November 1956) was an Australian zoologist whose career spanned the first half of the 20th century. His contribution to the division of the phylum arthropoda into two parts, one including insects, myriapods, and velvet worms, and the other including trilobites, crustaceans, and arachnids, is considered to be an important contribution to zoology. He was known for his ability to illustrate animals to great detail and obsession with microscopic observation of invertebrates. He is considered one of Australia's great zoologists and as having a permanent place in the history of zoology. He was a Doctor of Science (University of Adelaide), a Fellow of the Royal Society, and a founding Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science.
Meristematic tissue consists of actively dividing cells and leads to an increase in length and thickness of the plant. The primary growth of a plant occurs only in certain specific regions, such as in the tips of stems or roots. It is in these regions that meristematic tissue is present. Cells of this type of tissue are roughly spherical or polyhedral to rectangular in shape, with thin cell walls. New cells produced by meristem are initially those of meristem itself, but as the new cells grow and mature, their characteristics slowly change and they become differentiated as components of meristematic tissue, being classified as: { 1.Primary meristem.
Several types of chocolate can be distinguished. Pure, unsweetened chocolate, often called "baking chocolate", contains primarily non-fat cocoa solids and cocoa butter in varying proportions. Much of the chocolate consumed today is in the form of sweet chocolate, which combines chocolate with sugar.

Sealed, protected from light, and refrigerated at two to eight degrees Celsius for most research material. Desiccated storage limits moisture uptake. Allow the vial to reach room temperature before opening to prevent condensation.
Each cycle exposes the peptide to ice-liquid interfaces where unfolding and aggregation can occur. Aggregates may not redissolve and can alter measured activity. Aliquoting before the first freeze reduces the number of cycles any single portion experiences.
It usually reports purity by HPLC, identity by mass spectrometry, peptide content, appearance, and residual moisture or counterion content. The analytical method behind each value should be stated. Acceptance criteria are set by the supplier or the buyer's specification.
